Dress Code

CORVALLIS STEAM MAGNET MIDDLE SCHOOL UNIFORM/DRESS CODE POLICY 25-26

Purpose: At Corvallis Middle School, we believe that a well-defined dress code contributes to a respectful and focused learning environment. Our dress code promotes safety, unity, and a sense of community among students.By following our BARK expectation to Be Prepared, wearing the school uniform helps students start each day ready to learn, show school pride, and contribute to a respectful, focused learning environment. To avoid losing valuable instructional time, students should arrive on campus dressed in their proper uniform and ready for the day.

Holes or tears in pants are allowed below the knee only. 

Closed Toe Shoes

Appropriate footwear must be worn at all times. This includes closed-toe shoes with a backing. 

Hats/Beanies/Hoodies

Any color

Hats, beanies, and hoodies must be removed during instructional time. 

The following items are prohibited on campus, at school activities, and at all athletic events:

  • No student shall wear articles of clothing, jewelry, or accessories that threaten the student’s or others’ physical well-being and safety. Jewelry may not be worn in PE.
  • Clothing should fit well and be proportionate to the individual. Pants must be worn at the waist; they may not be taken in, cut off, stapled, or taped. Pants must not sag.
  • Skirts, skorts, and shorts must be no more than one inch below the knee and not shorter than mid-thigh.
  • When hands are raised, all tops must meet the top of the student’s pants, shorts, or skirt. Crop tops, halter tops, and tube tops are not allowed.
  • High-knee socks or socks that touch the bottom of the legs of shorts are not allowed. For safety and focus, sunglasses should not be worn during instructional time. 
  • Hoods or hats should be removed in class. Students should wear PE clothes exclusively f–or PE.
  • Any clothing or school materials, including backpacks, that have pre-printed or handwritten inappropriate or offensive language, sayings, drawings, or advertising that references alcohol, drugs, sexually explicit material, gang activity (including tagging), violence, or any other illegal material are not permitted.

The following actions will be taken if students do not adhere to the policies outlined above:

1st Violation

  • A verbal warning will be issued.
  • A parent/guardian may be contacted.
  • Students will have the chance to make necessary changes to comply with the dress code.

2nd Violation

  • A parent/guardian will be contacted.
  • Students will have the chance to make necessary changes to comply with the dress code.

3rd Violation

  • Students will be assigned detention.
  • A parent/guardian will be contacted.
  • Students will have the chance to make necessary changes to comply with the dress code.

4th Violation

  • A parent conference with an administrator will be held.
  • A behavioral contract may be implemented.
  • Students will have the chance to make necessary changes to comply with the dress code.

Final Note:Corvallis Middle School reserves the right to amend the Dress Code Policy at any time during the school year or summer to ensure school safety and promote a positive learning environment for all students. All students and parents receive information about the Dress Code Policy upon registration. We appreciate your support in maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
